“If we cannot now end our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity.”
-John F. Kennedy-

John Fitzgerald Kennedy or used to be called as John F. Kennedy, Kennedy, John Kennedy, Jack Kennedy, or JFK  was the 35th of US President. He was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, on May 29th, 1917. In 1960, he was nominated as the candidate of US President against Richard Nixon. Finally, on January 20th, 1961, John F. Kennedy was sworn in as the 35th President of the United States. He became the youngest man and the first Roman Catholic in American history to win the presidency. (, accessed on March 21st, 2012) As president, he gave more attention in racialism case. One of his most significant contributions was his effort to finally end racial discrimination among white and black people. (, accessed on March 21st, 2012) He dedicated his life to protect civil rights and create equality among the citizens of the US.

I chose those quote because it is so relevant with this fourth weekly topic: diversity. Diversity itself is known as one of US fundamental values.  As we know well, US is pluralism nation. There are so many religions, ethnic groups, and races living there. From quote above, Kennedy underlined that we have to make the world safe for diversity. Indeed, we are different, but do not let those differences separate us.

I absolutely agree with those quote. As we know well, our beloved nation, Indonesia, is pluralism nation too. We have so many religions, languages, ethnic groups, and races. But, absolutely, we are one. Our founding fathers had formulated Pancasila as our ideology to embody all of our differences and unite us in one place called Indonesia. Although we are come from different ethnic groups or religions, we are still one, namely Indonesia. As our motto said, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, which means unity in diversity. So, we have to appreciate it rightly.

In our country, racialism and pluralism cases still happens. Many of us do not respect with any differences, for instance humiliate other religions or other cultures. Sometimes, they feel that theirs are best one. They also argue and drop down each other. It shows that they have lossed their national identities as Indonesian. It is so ironic. Yet, we still have so many problems to be solved than arguing about our differences. If we do not want to change, so what is going to happen with this nation next?

Now on, we have to improve our self-capability continuously. Do not argue about our differences again! We must unite to raise up our country from deterioration.

Yes, Indonesia can!
