“In England a king hath little more to do than to make war and give away places; which in plain terms, is to impoverish the nation and set it together by the ears. A pretty business indeed for a man to be allowed eight hundred thousand sterling a year for, and worshipped into the bargain! Of more worth is one honest man to society and in the sight of God, than all the crowned ruffians that ever lived.” (Thomas Paine)

Written by: Nurlaili Azizah (071112001)

This quotation is taken from from “Common Sense” pamphlet written by Thomas Paine (January 29th 1737 – June 8th 1809). Thomas Paine was a pamphleteer, revolutionary, inventor, and intellectual of United Kingdom. Common Sense was officially published on January 10th, 1776. He wrote “Common Sense” to burn on spirit American citizen in struggling their independence from Kingdom of Great Britain’s colonialism. Quotation above is one of Common Sense’s contain, titled Of Monarchy and Hereditary Succession.

Quotation above briefly means that God is more appreciate to a honest one than all the crowned ruffians that ever lived. Those statement is definitely true. Personally, I do agree with it. A poor one that honest and has integrity is certainly more worth than thousand bureaucrats with decrepit moral. Nowadays, it is so hardly difficult to find a honest one. But, I believe that there are some persons that still have integrity.

Moral crisis, injustice, corruption, identity crisis, and other problems are being big problems for our nation’s survival. Therefore, the Indonesian leaders, elite, and citizen have to collaborate their power to solve the problems together. Leaders also have to improve self-capability and  give a care about public welfare. Now on, we do need leaders who have integrity, respectful, sensitive in time changing, and have a will to serve people heartily.

As a part of this nation, we, Indonesian youth, have to mobilize our abilities to save our country. We have to believe that we can do a change to raise our country up from destruction point. We are Indonesian diamonds, we can be a change makers.

Let’s build our nation together!
